"Ask me to play. I'll play. Ask me to shoot. I'll shoot. Ask me to pass. I'll pass. Ask me to steal, block out, sacrifice, lead, dominate. ANYTHING. But it's not what you ask of me. It's what I ask of myself. ~ LeBron James."

Leading up to Christmas, we will have a less intense week of basketball with only three practices. The break will provide the boys a good chance to spend a little time with family that they have been missing for the last few weeks. Following Christmas, we will be ramping up our activity again in preparation for a VERY busy month of January (13 games over a 21 day span), which will include three tournaments and an early stretch of games against some very strong teams (including Bayview, Truro, Pugwash, Stonepark, Astral Drive). If you are planning on being away over the break, please let me know so that I can adjust the content of the practices accordingly. Danny, Neil and I are very pleased with what we have been seeing on the court and of where the team currently stands. The strength of our upcoming schedule serves to prepare us for the late-season run toward the provincials. As always, thank you for your continued support.

GREAT EFFORT BRINGS GREAT RESULTS

We have set some lofty goals for the year and all agree that a great deal of effort will be required by all in order to achieve these goals. The boys have been working very hard, and have been focused and determined in both practices and games. Thus far, we have had 100% attendance at all of our practices this year. This type of dedication will help us achieve a lot this year. Great job boys! Over the next couple of weeks, we will have several important league games leading into the Christmas break. Although we will all take a little breather to spend some quality family time over the holidays, we will be on the court most days during the Christmas break. I will have a schedule on the blog in the coming days.

Thanks for your commitment.

Back Home

The boys played very well this afternoon, taking the bronze medal in a match that our posts dominated, scoring more than half our points. Game MVP was JJ with 20 points, followed by James with 15. The final score was 71-40. Great job boys. we're all very proud of your effort on and off the court.

We're playing for Bronze...

The boys hit the floor at 10:00 this morning against New Glasgow. After a tight first quarter, they pulled away in the second leading to a final score of 69 - 28. Game MVP was Colin with 26 pts, followed by Ty with 13. Everybody saw good floor time and made a contribution to our win. This puts us in the Bronze medal game at 3:00 - we are looking forward to a competitive match. I will keep you posted with the results and travelling time.

PLANS FOR SATURDAY

This morning we will be playing against the New Glasgow Panthers, as scheduled. Our expectations are that we will likely be in the 3rd place game this afternoon, as long as the boys come out to play like they can this morning. That would put us back on the court at 3:00, and on the road to PEI between 4:30 - 5:00. If things turn out differently, we'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Scott

A Tough Outing Tonight

Just back to the hotel from the gym. The boys played hard against a very big, aggressive and fast team. We held close until halftime, but their shooting percentage soared in the second half en route to a 63-38 Bayview victory. Game MVP, Ty and Colin led the way with 13 points apiece. Defensively, we played a very determined game (3 charges), but we were a little sloppy on the offensive end. We will be facing this team again in January in Mahone Bay, so I am looking forward to seeing how the team grows. By the way, the boys are being well-behaved at the hotel.....rest easy.

A good start to the season

Well, we now have our first game under our belt and a win to show for it. All 12 players were able to make a contribution to last night's game and help us come away with a 30-point victory. It was a great chance to see our gameplay prior to this weekend's tournament in Nova Scotia, and allows us to make some changes heading into Friday evening's game against Bayview. The first game of the year is always pretty nerve-wracking for most players but I thought everyone put in a focused effort. This weekend's games, without the added pressure of a home crowd, will allow us to continue our development as a team and to learn exactly what strengths and weaknesses we possess.

Thanks for your support.

PLANS FOR THIS WEEKEND

As previously mentioned, the team will be paying for transportation and hotels. The boys will need money for food (Saturday's breakfast is complimentary at the hotel).

We expect to depart Summerside on Friday afternoon at 1:30. The boys should be at SIS, and ready to go at this time. They should also have a good lunch before we leave. Once we arrive in New Glasgow, we will check into the hotel, and grab a quick bite at Subway; this usually gives us a healthy option for the boys. We will then head to the gym to watch the game prior to ours. Following our game, we will make a stop at Sobeys so the boys can grab a snack to take back to the hotel. The boys will be in their rooms by 10:00 and lights out will tentatively be 11:00. If they leave their rooms overnight, they will not play on Saturday (and we will know if they do).

On Saturday, we will get up, have breakfast and head to the gym for our game vs New Glasgow. We will have some time to kill on Saturday with the skills competition at 12:45 and our final game at a time yet to be determined. We will probably just spend our time between the mall and watching the other games. Immediately following our final game, we will hit the road. The website will be updated to indicate our approximate arrival time back in Summerside.

Thank you for your support.

2010 - 2011 Season Coming Together

Although we will not have our 12 regular season games scheduled until mid-November, a lot of our exhibition games are already confirmed for the 2010 - 2011 season. We will be holding tryouts following the completion of all fall school sports; I look forward to seeing a good turnout at these sessions, and I hope everyone will be prepared to impress. For the boys that are successful in making the squad this year, there is an expectation of commitment and dedication for the 3 months of our season. We will be on the court 6 days a week, practicing or playing. We will be attending 3 out-of-province tournaments (New Glasgow, Mahone Bay, Bridgewater) that all require 2-3 days away from home. In addition, we will be taking part in the Stonepark Invitational in Charlottetown, and hosting 2 tournaments of our own. It will be a very busy season, but one to look forward to. Best of luck to all in your preparation for the season.

2010 - 2011 Season Coming Soon

School is back in this week, and you will all have lots of opportunities to try out for fall sports teams (Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country). These activities give you a great chance to get into shape for basketball season. We will be starting our Saturday or Sunday night sessions very soon. These are simply an opportunity for all players interested in preparing for tryouts to get a basketball in their hands, run some light drills and scrimmage with other players. Keep an ear on the announcements to find out when these will be starting. ALL SIS boys (grade 7, 8, 9) are welcome to participate.

Hope to see you there.

TIME FOR SOME REFLECTION

We've all had some time to sit back and absorb the events of the last few days. A loss in the season's final game is never easy for any team to accept, however we have many reasons to hold our heads high. The effort put forth not only in this game, but the entire season should give you all a sense of pride, a sense of accomplishment, and a lot to be happy about. The color of the medal that you all now possess does not accurately reflect your season and I hope you all know this. It was an absolute pleasure to coach all of you this year and I am truly proud to say I was a part of this team. We will schedule an afternoon together at some point following March break to have a bite to eat and give the parents a chance to beat you. Thanks again.

This weekend will cap off a very successful season. On Friday, we need to have all the boys at the gym no later than 6:00. However, it would be a great gesture on our part to be in attendance for the girls' game at 5:30.

I have asked the boys to keep Saturday morning open. At present, the boys are expected to be at the gym on Saturday at 10:45 sharp. If we are in the gold-medal game, we will be holding a walk-through practice and going out for a team lunch, prior to the game.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

A great trip to Nova Scotia

GAME #4
This one was close start to finish and the boys showed a lot of composure down the stretch as Bible Hill made a comeback. In the end we held them off by a margin of 63-61. Player of the game ... Colin A

GAME #3
The boys came out flying early in the morning and ended up knocking off Sherwood Park of Sydney by a score of 59-45. Player of the game...Wade

GAME #2
We played our second game this afternoon against Hebbville Academy, and won 55 - 40. Everyone contributed to a strong game by the team. Player of the game ... Andrew B

TOUGH GAME IN HALIFAX
After an afternoon of watching Colin A get his hair cut (We had time to kill and these boys are easily entertained), we hit Clayton Park Junior High. We got off to a very strong start, but their best player came in off the bench and hit everything, inside and out. In the end, we lost a good game 55-44, but with a very strong effort. We'll be facing Hebbville today at 1:00, in front of their student body....should be a spirited contest.

Danny & I will be taking the boys to Charlottetown on Friday, but we would like to know if there are any parents planning on traveling down on Saturday morning for our 9:00 game. We will not know what time our last game Saturday is until we finish our round-robin, but it will be no earlier than 2:00.

TRAVEL PLANS FOR CALLAGHAN

We are all set for our trip to Callaghan today; Danny is taking his van and my van is also coming up which will enable us to carry all players in the two vehicles. The boys have been instructed to be at the gym no later than 3:45 today to accomodate travel times. As in all of our western game trips, the boys should have a little $$$ for dinner as we usually stop for a bite to eat on the way home. On our last trip to Callaghan, we made it home by approximately 8:30.

With the season just about half over, I would like to have a short parents' meeting on Thursday following the Athena game in the gym, to cover off a few topics before we begin the home stretch.

Thanks,

Scott
